The LexJet Corporation, founded in early 1994, provides complete
digital color output solutions for customers worldwide. The
company is headquartered in Sarasota, Fla., with distribution
facilities in Albany, N.Y.; Birmingham; Cincinnati; Denver; Milwaukee; Reno; Dallas; Jacksonville, Fla.; Wilmington, Del.; and Los Angeles.
LexJet was started in Sarasota by Ron Simkins and Art
Lambert. These two senior executives from the computer industry
formed the company with one goal in mind - to offer large
format printing companies proven solutions and sound technical
support as an alternative to the inadequate support common
in the newest segment of the computer industry.
As a precursor to LexJet, Simkins and Lambert were early users
of large format technology in one of their unrelated corporations.
It became quickly apparent that the industry leaders of the time
were ill prepared to provide proven solutions and products to
cover the wide gamut of applications that were being rapidly
uncovered by this new industry. By placing ads in sign related
publications and selling their inkjet coated polycarbonate directly
to other professionals, they helped pioneer the new industry's
first and truly innovative film product, LexJet Clear. During
the first two years of business, the business partners concentrated
on providing technical support and additional unique film based
products for the large format community.
In 1996, Simkins and Lambert recognized that the demand for sound solutions for the professional community continued to far outstrip the ability and knowledge of any single printer manufacturer or material supplier's capabilities. With that in mind, they set out to capitalize on their computer industry background and began to create internal computer systems that would track and compare problems vs. solutions for the wide variations in hardware, software, inks, laminators, and materials being purchased by the professional. The only way to collect and compile the vast amounts of data required to identify compatibility problems and new applications was to develop a direct relationship with the technically sophisticated users. With the launch of its direct approach, LexJet flourished and the company began to earn numerous solution awards.
In 1997, the LexJet Corporation was nominated for
the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and in 1998 it was identified
as one of the fastest growing companies in the state of Florida.
In 2001 LexJet was ranked 48th on the INC Magazine list
of fastest growing private companies in America and also listed
as the 48th Fastest Growing Technology Related Company in North
America by Deloitte & Touche. LexJet was most recently named the 2006 Technology Company of the Year by the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County for its dedication to corporate citizenship and community involvement, corporate responsibility through employee programs, and company growth, innovative achievements, and market expansion.
Recognizing that the photographic industry was about to undergo a dramatic transition from a mature chemical photographic industry to a new digital format industry, LexJet began in 2001 to expand into the digital photographic community, setting standards and preparing solutions for photographers and graphic artists worldwide who would soon be struggling with the complexities of digital color output.
Today, LexJet is recognized throughout the wide format community and digital photographic/imaging output industry as the premier leader in providing education and sound product solutions for those professionals engaged in the production and output of digital color images.
