Our First GlobalShop @ RetailX Was a Buzz-worthy Success https://www.sone.com/our-first-globalshop-retailx-was-a-buzz-worthy-success/ Wed, 03 Jul 2019 21:12:24 +0000 https://www.sone.com/?p=11023 Our team here at S-One was excited to make our debut at GlobalShop @ RetailX in Chicago last month, showcasing media options we’ve hand-selected for retail environments. The event focused on all aspects of retail, including design, ecommerce, technology and more.

Fabrics were a huge trend all throughout the GlobalShop, and we were right on trend with some tried-and-true favorites as well as brand-new to the market options.“Fabric was everywhere, and it’s always going to continue to trend,” says sales rep Matt Radauscher. “The guys who don’t have dye-sub yet were happy to hear they had options to print fabrics on latex.”

Our team showcased HP Durable Backlit Fabric, a lightweight option suitable for SEG frames that’s latex-compatible. We also had dye-sub users covered with Fisher Textiles 4608 Power Stretch and 9048 EZ Stretch, which are, for the first time, available in wide-format sizes exclusively through our company, LexJet.

squid office 2We also brought the brand-new adhesive fabric, Squid, which generated a ton of buzz. The fabric’s fibers are finished on one side with a special adhesive that is designed for windows. Squid can be printed or used alone to create privacy, block out the sun’s rays and/or display brand messaging. It’s an elegant solution for high-end retail and corporate environments. Stay tuned for more info to come soon!

We also showcased two new canvas options, Fredrix Metallic Gold and Pearl Canvas, which offer a metallic finish to canvas wraps that were not available to the wide-format market previously. We sampled HP Recycled Satin Canvas, made of 100% recycled water bottles. We’re excited to see how this new, award-winning option will impact our industry.

yoga girlThroughout the show floor, we were mesmerized by some of the emerging trends, most of which played around with dynamic color and customization. SuperColor Digital featured printable blackout fabrics that were enhanced with lighting features that actually changed the colors of the graphics (see photo).

We noticed that many of the exhibits focused on brick-and-mortar retail’s current challenge: competing with ecommerce by using dynamic, sometimes over-the-top displays to create a memorable in-store experience.

“When looking at the booth designs, nearly every one of them had some sort of electrical element in the displays themselves,” says S-One Marketing Director Terry Lynn Belzer. “Whether they were blow-up fixtures, floor fixtures or even animal displays with eyes that lit up. There was also a lot of focus on tactile experiences throughout the show.”

IMG-4634There was even an “Instagrammable” moment with a Game of Thrones-inspired display with a giant throne and sword that was a photo opp just waiting to happen.

Our products like ChromaLuxe Photo Panels, Vescom Gold and Silver Mylar wallcoverings and Signetics Duo magnetic-receptive media offer a variety of ways to incorporate print into dynamic retail displays.

Colorful, hyper-customized walls, windows, floors and even ceilings showcased the power of print throughout the exhibits at GlobalShop @ RetailX. To get a closer look at the materials that S-One showcased, please visit our RetailX page for product info or give one of our retail specialists a call at 800-453-9538.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation: Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada raising more than $175 million so far, funding nearly 1,000 research projects and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer. S-One Celebrates 25 Years https://www.sone.com/s-one-celebrates-25-years/ Mon, 13 May 2019 14:27:52 +0000 https://www.sone.com/?p=10965 On May 2, employees at S-One Holdings Corporation’s Sarasota headquarters celebrated the company’s 25 years with a rooftop soirée. Employees marked the occasion by creating a walk of fame featuring each of their names in stars on the fourth floor rooftop patio of Downtown Sarasota’s Ellis Building on Main Street.

IMG_1839The event featured S-One founders Ron Simkins and Art Lambert, pictured above, who started their first company, LexJet, in Sarasota in 1994. In 2012, the duo officially combined several other companies, Utopia Digital Technologies, Brand Management Group and ABAQA to form S-One Holdings Corporation. Last year, the S-One team launched its newest company, S-One Labels & Packaging.

S-One kicked off its 25th anniversary year by publishing its 2019 Culture Book, which features customer and employee stories, a look back at how S-One companies have impacted the printing industry, and how S-One has touched its local communities.

_D728934xIn Sarasota, S-One ramped up its fundraising efforts to benefit Sticks for Soldiers and Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The company and its employees have raised $7,500 so far in 2019, with more special events planned throughout the year.

The company was thrilled this year to win two Stevie Awards from the American Business Awards. The winners were determined by the average scores of more than 200 professionals worldwide in the two-month judging process. S-One was honored in two categories:

  • Company Book: Silver Stevie Award for the S-One 2019 Culture Book
  • Innovation of the Year: Bronze Stevie Award for the launch of HP Recycled Satin Canvas

“To think we’ve made it to 25 years is just astounding,” says Lambert. “It’s been quite a ride, and we couldn’t have done it without all of our dedicated employees who show up every day and give it their all. They’ve not only created a excellent company, but an extended family, as well. Ron and I couldn’t be more proud.”

S-One 2019 Culture Book

culture book teaseThe S-One 2019 Culture Book kicked off our 25th anniversary year, filled with stories about our teammates and our product innovation and customer connections over the years. We also incorporated state-of-the-art print technologies into the publication, including digital embellishment with Scodix, unique covers with HP SmartStream Mosaic and augmented reality with videos that enhanced the printed articles. You can access a digital version with videos of the S-One 2019 Culture Book or request a print copy HERE.

What the Judges Said:

“Best internal vehicle ever. Celebratory, joy-filled, information-packed. I read every page and learned a lot about the company and how it cares for its internal and external communities. Imagine how much the employees gather from its pages!”

HP Recycled Satin Canvas

HP Recycled Canvas Award 2As the licensee of HP’s large-format media, S-One’s BMG has launched HP Recycled Satin Canvas. A first of its kind, this printable canvas is constructed with 100% recycled water bottles. This environmentally supportive innovation offers an entirely new identity for the print industry that runs counter to its long-standing “wasteful” stigma, as well as making a dramatic impact on the mounting issue of the world’s plastic trash. The development of the product included sourcing materials, manufacturing, product development, and all sales and marketing worldwide.

What the Judges Said:

“Bravo, bravo!! I love that they have introduced a new product that is not only 100% recycled and environmentally-friendly but is also helping to evolve an industry that hasn’t been environmentally-positive in the past. This is how you start a movement. Well done.”

The American Business Awards® are open to all organizations operating in the U.S.A., and feature a wide variety of categories to recognize achievement in every facet of the workplace. Stevie Award programs are held all over the world.

S-One Launches 2019 Culture Book with Print Innovations https://www.sone.com/s-one-launches-2019-culture-book-with-print-innovations/ Wed, 27 Feb 2019 17:43:42 +0000 https://www.sone.com/?p=10924 SARASOTA, FLA. (FEB. 27, 2019) — To kick off its year-long 25th anniversary, S-One Holdings Corporation has published its 2019 Culture Book. The book is a celebration of the teams that make up S-One and its subsidiary companies, as well as its customers, partners and communities.

S-One culture book coversThe theme of the book is the S-One vision: Develop. Connect. Innovate., which are illustrated throughout the 48-page publication. Articles include team passions, strengths- and learning-based initiatives, community involvement projects and a look back at the past 25 years and the innovations S-One has brought to market and forever changed the print industry through its companies: LexJet, Brand Management Group, ABAQA, Utopia Digital Technologies and S-One Labels & Packaging.

“As you read this new edition, you’ll see example after example of just how our culture and core values impact our people and their families, our customers and our commitment to innovations,” says Art Lambert, S-One co-founder, President & CEO. “This book illustrates what makes S-One ‘different’ and how our passion for and commitment to our teammates, partners and customers has driven us for the past 25 Years to be the best!”

Pages of Print Innovations

As pioneers of innovative print technology, we tapped some industry pros to bring cutting-edge elements to this publication. On the cover, we use HP SmartStream Mosaic software to create individually unique covers that were digitally printed on HP Indigo. We also asked our printer, Bennett Graphics, to add Scodix digital embellishment on our “S” logo. The results are eye-catching, to say the least.

AR teaseWe also harnessed the power of augmented reality, creating a new smartphone app, S-OneAR, available on iOS and Android, to bring videos to life right on the pages of the book. See the first page of a print copy for download instructions so you can delve deeper into our stories.

S-One Goes Around the World for All Faiths Food Bank https://www.sone.com/s-one-goes-around-the-world-for-all-faiths-food-bank/ Tue, 04 Dec 2018 17:43:22 +0000 https://www.sone.com/?p=10898 SARASOTA, FLA. (Dec. 4, 2018) — The tradition started in 2011, with small LexJet teams working to come up with interesting themes for their “canstruction” projects, created from food items to be donated to All Faiths Food Bank: Best Vegetarian Contribution or Best Carbohydrate Donation. That first year, LexJet, now a division of S-One Holdings Corporation, donated almost 1,200 pounds of food to All Faiths.

Over the years, competitive S-One canstruction builds included printers, Wrigley Field, a Thanksgiving Day parade, and even working replicas of video games, skee ball and board games. Last year the theme was movies, and the “Wizard of Oz” and “Toy Story” canstructions generated nearly 2,200 pounds of food — for the first time, the 1 ton mark had been reached.

Let’s Take a Trip

This year, S-One’s global offices created an “Around the World” experience for All Faiths. Starting on the fifth floor of S-One’s corporate offices on Main Street, the “journey” starts over the Skyway Bridge, complete with a toll booth, cargo ship and a shark in the water. The trip continues through our stairwell, which represents the airport, along with a board of arrivals and departures.

Next, you see the S-One Barcelona team in their airplane seats aboard “S-One Airlines.” Finally, the trip ends in London where visitors rendezvous with the Meghan and Harry and the Queen at Big Ben and Tower Bridge.

When the trip was over, Art Lambert presented the team from All Faiths a check for $1,000 and more than 1.26 tons of food had been collected.

“Your gift of $1,000 along with 2,522 pounds of food will be used to provide fresh produce, meats and groceries to children, families and seniors in our community who, without your help, might otherwise go hungry,” wrote Denise Cotler, Chief Development officer at All Faiths Food Bank. “Thanks to individuals like you, in 2017, we served 66,000 people 8.5 million meals.”

LexJet, a subsidiary of S-One Holdings Corp., headquartered in Sarasota, Fla., is hosting a dynamic workshop called the “Power of Print” with Canon and Thomas Carabasi, Department Head for Photography and Imaging at Ringling College of Art and Design.

Power of Print will take place at Ringling College of Art & Design’s Academic Center.

Attendees will learn valuable skills — from equipment to media choices to color management — to sharpen their skills and grow their businesses. Four leading industry experts will discuss how print is still a unique and effective channel of communication, as well as how print can work within the modern-day marketing mix.

Starting the day, professional photographer Alan Winslow will give the “Low Down on Printing,” which covers printing fundamentals, such as choosing the right paper, monitor calibration, printer settings and more. Next up, photography and cinematography entrepreneur MaKayla Jade will get into the power of storytelling in her discussion “Selling & Serving: Secrets to $5,000+ Print & Album Sales.”

After lunch, LexJet’s Michael Clementi will discuss “Enhancing Your Success with Inkjet Printing,” to cover topics like investing in the right equipment and showing an ROI for it. The seminars round out with professional photographer Clay Blackmore, who will discuss “Printing for Profit,’ that focuses on adding to the bottom line with in-house printing tips. He’ll also demonstrate his new camera techniques.

The evening concludes with a dinner and moderated Q&A. The program is sponsored by Canon, Fundy Designer, Used Photo Pro, ImagePrint, X-Rite, Dury’s and LexJet.

S-One Lends Support to These Brave Athletes https://www.sone.com/s-one-lends-support-to-these-brave-athletes/ Mon, 13 Aug 2018 20:28:41 +0000 https://www.sone.com/?p=10867 When people ask what we did this summer, S-One has some inspiring stories from events like Tri My Best Triathlon with Tender Touch Therapy near our Wisconsin office in Kenosha, and helping to plan the upcoming Gran Fondo Sarasota with the Team Tony Cancer Foundation in our headquarters town in Sarasota, Fla. Here are our summer stories:

TRI MY BEST TRIATHLON

In the early morning sunshine, a little boy in a long purple t-shirt and bright blue glasses takes the last few footsteps across a humble yet cheerful finish line in the Kenosha, Wisc. YMCA parking lot. He shuffles slightly with braces around his ankles and leaps into his mother’s arms in triumph.

IMG_0172This little guy has just finished the 4th annual Tri My Best Triathlon, an adaptive sporting event for children and young adults, ages 5 and up, with developmental disabilities. The event is sponsored by Tender Touch Therapy, a physical and occupational therapy center for children.

During the triathlon, athletes swim, bike and run on various courses that are adapted to their abilities. Each participant is paired with volunteers who either run beside the athlete for moral support or help them move along every aspect of the route, whether that’s a hand to hold, pushing a wheelchair or anything in between. Tri My Best started four years ago in Kenosha with 49 athlete participants. This year, 123 athletes took to the course.

“While all causes are worthwhile, this one is among the most amazing events I have ever seen,” says Ralph Giammarco. “My heart is full, and my eyes are pouring tears when I’m at this event. Few things are more inspiring than the compassion of the volunteers, the unconditional love of the families, and the courage and determination of the athletes. This truly represents the best of who people can be.”

In past years, S-One has donated printed banners. This year, we stepped it up with a $2,500 donation and were named the pool sponsor.

GRAN FONDO SARASOTA

Team Tony Pic v2The Team Tony Cancer Foundation was founded in 2010 by Tony McEachern, an avid cyclist, adventure racer and survivor of brain cancer. He felt compelled to use his experience to raise awareness for the critical need for programs that focus on providing support to those diagnosed with cancer.

The foundation pairs local cancer survivors and caregivers with cancer fighters to inspire and support them during the fight of their lives. Through the generous support and donations of the community, Team Tony offers their services free of charge to the patients.

The largest yearly fundraiser for Team Tony is a cycling challenge in early October. For the past several years, the “Cycle of Life” was a 200-mile ride over a two-day period. With a limited number of elite cyclists able to participate, Tony decided to change things up for 2018 and Gran Fondo Sarasota was born. This year, the event will be one day and there will be four distances to encourage more participation: 8 miles, 33 miles, 66 miles and 100 miles.

S-One is a participating sponsor of a rest stop that will have volunteers on hand to help cyclists with water, snacks, or rack their bikes as they come in for a breather. There is also a team of S-One employees and family who will be raising funds, with members participating at every level of the ride.

While the foundation is well known to many members of S-One, the grant nomination was initiated by Nicole Chapman, an Iron Man athlete and participant in many of the 200-mile Cycle of Life events, and Jennifer Corn, whose aunt who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2016 and has received assistance from the Team Tony program.

S-One Revamps “S1U” Employee Education Program https://www.sone.com/s-one-revamps-s1u-employee-education-program/ Tue, 22 May 2018 19:44:47 +0000 http://www.sone.com/?p=10834 With a commitment to innovation, employee development and fun, S-One Holdings Corporation has relaunched its continuing education program known as S1U.

“We’ve revamped the program to utilize the latest technology to give our team members access to more than 3,000 professionally taught courses that can be completed when and where they want,” says Michael Clementi, who is heading up the program. “They can take courses on their computers, tablets or smartphones, and we’re adding live (and live-streamed) classroom learning opportunities, as well.”

S-One uses Udemy online courses, which cover a wide variety of topics from stress management and yoga to marketing, leadership and software training. The first classroom lesson was held earlier this month, lead by professional photographer, Pete Wright, who taught the elements of photography.

“I’ve been interested in photography since I was young, but I have no experience other than a point and click camera or cell phone,” says class member Jen Corn. “During the class, I realized that it’s not always about the camera, but about the impact of the image being captured, the story being told and how it’s presented to the world. I can’t wait to practice some of the things I’ve learned.”

DEALTo help employees find time for learning, S-One began a monthly DEAL (Drop Everything And Learn) hour. In teams, employees are assigned one hour a month to dedicate to their continued education. Since the weather has been cooperating, desks were set up on the fourth floor outdoor patio for the DEAL hour.

“During our first DEAL hour, we collectively logged 2,900 minutes of learning,” says Clementi. “During our second DEAL hour, we put in 3,788 minutes!”

By providing the platform that affords equal learning opportunities for every team member, S-One offers evergreen courses that can be focused on individual interests to maximize the amount of professional and personal growth they can achieve.

“It’s awesome having permission to learn in the middle of a workday,” says S-One team member Jason Nelson. “Right now I’m taking a course on iOS development, and at the end of the 49.5 hour course I’ll be able to develop complex iOS apps!”

To learn more about S1U, contact Michael Clementi at S-One Holdings Corp.
