Janelle Piersoll, our VP of IT, has been volunteering in our community for the past 15 years. As part of S-One Holdings Corporation’s core value of Selfless Service, she embraces a passion in giving youth more opportunities to succeed. Her social impact was recognized by SRQ Magazine who selected Piersoll as a Corporate Good Hero. Piersoll’s giving is profiled on pages 100-101 of the magazine’s February issue.
S-One is committed to bridging the gap so that area students are given more opportunities to sharpen their skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow. Our IT team mentored coding students at State College ofFlorida (SCF) to empower them with real-world knowledge to help them become more competitive in the workforce.
Students gained a vision of what the IT workforce looks like from S-One professionals who have worked in the industry for over 20 years. Mentorships elevate students’ software development skills and guide them as they move out of training and launch their job search.
“It’s huge being able to have someone in the industry to lean on and learn from,” stated Piersoll. “It's a chance to share ideas during mentoring sessions, collaborate, and get questions answered from our IT team members.”
Piersoll has conducted hundreds of interviews for S-One and presented interview tips to the bootcamp students during the SCF Coding Academy speakers’ series. Her presentations and S-One's IT mentorships widened opportunities for students who otherwise may never have received the chance to get perspectives and support from technology professionals. S-One's commitment comes as a direct result of filling a need in our community to prepare students for IT jobs and help businesses find trained candidates for open positions.
“We’re struggling to find talent when we hire new people. So, I was inspired by this program to help local business needs,” Piersoll emphasized.
As a mother, Piersoll closely grasps the importance of helping students succeed at an early age. Her volunteerism has consisted of mentoring students at a local elementary school and high school. She’s also involved with Little League, travel ball, and volunteering as a Parent Teacher Organization board member at Ashton Elementary School.
“I've been able to do this because S-One empowers me to be able to do so. S-One encourages everyone within the companyto step up and help our neighbors.”
To help bring its core value of Selfless Service to life, S-One offers team members paid time off for volunteer programs.
